Research Interests

I study freshwater ecosystems to understand how they vary across space and time. The Midwestern United States contains a diverse mix of working and natural landscapes that depend on freshwater resources. My current projects focus on carbon storage in urban ponds, long-term changes in Wisconsin lakes, and the relationship between wetland area and ecosystem services at the watershed scale.

More broadly, my research interests include:

• Long-term ecosystem change
• Spatial patterns of ecosystem services and their underlying processes
• Wetland, pond, and small-lake ecology
• Urban and agricultural landscapes of the Midwest
